A Step into the Dark

I used to tell myself the monsters weren’t real until the day they killed my entire family. Now I’m barely getting out of bed, a heartbeat away from getting committed and none of it matters. Until Kane shows up.

He says he knows the monsters are real, and he says he can get rid of them. All I have to do is walk in their land, risk the destruction of everything I have left, and he’ll help me banish them forever.

I don’t know who Kane is, or what he really wants, and I don’t care. Nothing I have means anything if I can’t be free of the creatures that stalk me…

I started reading this without high hopes due to my past disappointment with the author. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this first book in the Ollie Wit series.

In fact, this was actually the first book by the author that I truly enjoyed! The story was both unique and engaging, keeping me hooked. It was also incredibly entertaining, especially the witty exchanges between Ollie and Kane.

I loved the characters, the storylines, and the mystery woven into the story. The heroine, Ollie, is fearless, even though she’s broken. The concept of Shadow Walkers and the monster realm is fascinating. There’s so much left unknown about the male lead, Kane, which adds to the intrigue.

The ending was so compelling that I immediately picked up the next book. But let’s just say you won’t get the answer immediately.😅

Walking in the Dark

Some people find power in the light. Others are meant to walk in the dark.

Ollie Wit left it all behind: a new home, friends who saw her as something more than a fragile shadow walker and a budding relationship with Kane. She did it all in an effort to shield Asher, who should’ve never been able to escape the Shadowlands.

Now her money is gone, her hopes of saving other shadow walkers have slipped through her fingers, and Kane won’t speak to her. She’s been abducted by leprechauns, who think she has committed an unspeakable crime. The vampires want her dead, and there’s a crawler blowing up End of the Rainbows.

Kane might not want to work with her, but he’s going to have to because all hell is breaking loose in Boston.

I have to admit, the first few chapters are quite challenging to get through, not because they’re poorly written, but because of the struggles Ollie faces, which really make you feel for her. 😅

That said, this second book is incredibly entertaining, with so much more action and development. Usually, things might calm down a bit before the final book, but not this one. It’s just as fun as the first one, with Ollie levelling up in every way—her powers, friendships, and even her love life.

However, we’re still nowhere near uncovering the mystery of Kane’s identity, though there’s speculation about whether he might be the devil. Could it be? The only way to find out is to read the next book! Hopefully, it’ll finally give us some answers about who he really is and also get Ollie her HEA!

Kissed by the Dark

Life with Kane is wonderful, right up until it’s not.

People like me, Shadow Walkers, who know that monsters are real and nightmares don’t only happen when you’re sleeping, are always waiting for the worst. But no one believes me when I tell them disaster is looming, not even Kane, the man who has seen more than I can imagine.

When the worst does happen, I’m not prepared. Months of my life are wiped from my memory, strangers call me friend, and it looks like I’m conspiring with the enemy. I need a backup plan. The only problem is, if I have one, I don’t remember it. I don’t remember anything, like who to trust and who to hate.

Someone screwed with my life, and they’re going to pay. But do I trust Kane to help me when all I can remember is that I hate him?

What’s wrong with this book🥲. I really enjoyed books one and two, but this last book was such a letdown. I was so invested in Ollie and Kane’s journey and thrilled to see things finally going right for them after all they’d been through by the end of book two. But then their relationship took a sudden turn, again!

Let’s just say I was hoping for a different kind of story to wrap up this series. One that focuses more on strengthening their relationship by throwing some adventure into the Shadowlands, retrieving more spells and Ollie showcasing her ability against a more formidable opponent. I was also expecting some clarity about Kane’s identity. Perhaps even a glimpse into his origin or a bit of his history.

Instead, things felt unresolved, and I couldn’t help but wish for an epilogue to give Ollie and Kane the happily-ever-after I was rooting for. It’s frustrating because I’ve been so invested in their journey, and this book just didn’t live up to the standard set by the first two. For this reason, I can only give this book a three-star rating, while the series as a whole deserves a four-star rating.
