Magic Bound
Starting a new school is never easy, but this time not fitting in could cost lives.
Despite being raised by shifters, my life was fairly ordinary . . . until I tried to break up a fight and got zapped with magic.
Then, all hell broke loose.
The binding spell placed on me as an infant broke and I found out in a painful and rather unpleasant manner that I’m actually a witch.
Sounds great, right? Yeah . . . not so much.
Now, the very people my birth mother tried to hide me from want to use my concealment as an excuse to push an anti-shifter agenda. The only way to keep my adoptive family—and myself—safe is to enroll in the elite Ravencrest Academy and prove I can control my newfound abilities.
Unfortunately, raw power doesn’t translate into competency and magic alone does nothing to help me navigate the ins and outs of witch society. But even with all the things working against me, I manage to make a few new friends and there’s a spark of something more with the last person I expect.
Still, I can’t let that distract me from the ugly truth that many who walk the halls of Ravencrest are eager to see me fail. To keep the peace between shifters and witches I must succeed . . . no matter the cost.
My thoughts…
Selene loves her adoptive parents, the Beta and his wife of Blue Ridge Shifters. She always regarded herself as a member of their pack, and she understands that she is a blank witch, a term used to describe her lack of magical abilities. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when her powers are unleashed.
Selene is sent to Ravencrest Academy, an esteemed boarding school for witches, to protect her adoptive parents from the coven council. There, she finds that her magic is unique and different from that of her fellow students. Plus, starting her education later than the others, she struggles to keep up academically.
With only her roommate and two other friends to rely on, Selene must stand up against wealthy bullies and confront her growing attraction to Tristen St. James, a boy whose family despises shifters. To top it off, Selene needs to pass the semester if she wants to remain in school.
This story is packed with drama, mystery, politics, action, and unexpected plot twists that will keep you entertained. I recommend this book to those who enjoy reading supernatural beings such as witches and shapeshifters in an academy setting, along with elements of enemies-to-lovers vibes and themes of secrets and betrayal.
By the end of book one, there’s still much to be explored, and I hope the next instalment delves deeper into Selene’s family history. I’m curious to learn about her father’s identity; I can’t help but wonder if he might be someone of extraordinary power, perhaps a Fae because the basis of all magic is with the Fae!
Spell Linked
School sucks, even for the supernaturally gifted.
The fallout from last quarter is worse than I could have ever imagined and hostilities between shifters and witches are intensifying by the day. OSA has practically taken over campus in their search for Bitten witches—and any traitors who didn’t report them. Including… me.
But that’s not the only secret I have to hide.
My powers are growing, while my control over them is not. Unfortunately, there’s no one I can turn to for help. My roommate’s already suffered the consequences of being drawn into my problems, and after a magical mishap ends with another friend being blasted across the room, I refuse to endanger anyone else. Still, I’m a little tempted to give some magical payback to the arrogant witch-boy who kisses me one minute and gives me the cold shoulder the next.
All of this aside, I still have to find a way to pass all my classes. With the end of semester tournament closing in, there’s no time for mistakes. In this volatile equation, one little slip-up could be deadly.
My thoughts…
If there’s one book that makes me forget about sleep, it’s this one. Speaking of sleep, it brings back memories of why Selene annoyed me in the first book. It was due to her oversleeping that she missed the meeting with Isobel. I understand she didn’t have an alarm clock and was fatigued, but I still couldn’t help feeling frustrated and forgive her for that😅.
In stark contrast, the second book had been a source of enjoyment rather than frustration. I frequently found myself excitedly flipping through the pages, often telling myself it was time to go to bed after finishing the chapter. However, when I reached the end of the chapter, I found it hard to uphold that promise because the story was engaging.
I love reading about the heroine becoming more formidable; Selene is finally beginning to grasp her power, even if she hasn’t fully realized its extent yet. There’s something she’s exceptionally skilled at—the sigil work.
When his teacher, Nikiforov, offers her help, I sense right away that something is amiss, and the mysterious raven/crow and the discussions about the true shapeshifters, those clues left my mind racing with possibilities.
After two books, the plot thickens. While we’ve gained some answers, there are still many unanswered questions. Are Selene’s maternal grandparents decent individuals? What does the future hold for her relationship with Tristan? Who is her father?
What is the backstory of Nikiforov, and how does it connect to the conflict that has led to a rift between witches and werewolves? Why are the Fae suddenly showing up and seeking to hunt Selene? I can’t wait to read the next instalment and unearth all the answers!
Ward Locked
New classes. New director. And lots of new rules.
After spending my three-week Winter Break under magical house arrest, I’m looking forward to returning to school. But when I get there, everything has changed.
OSA has tightened its hold on every academy and Ravencrest’s new director takes the restrictions a step further, leaving me without my two closest friends. Worse, the boy who left me behind is back on campus with an even bigger surprise in tow…one that involves a ring.
And all that is the least of my worries.
Shifters and witches are disappearing and someone is working in the shadows, twisting magic to their whims in unnatural ways. With my own magic still out of control, my biggest issue will be figuring out who to trust. Making the wrong choice could be the last thing I ever do.
Ward Locked is the third book in the Ravencrest Academy series, an exciting YA supernatural academy series with a slow burn enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans of Paranormal Academy, Legacy Academy, and Darkblood Academy.
My thoughts…
After the winter break, Selene returns to Ravencrest Academy, hoping to reunite with familiar faces like Isobel and Adrian. Instead, just like her wardrobe filled with new clothes, everything at the academy feels unfamiliar.
Selene now has her private room to reflect her status as the Andras heir and a new director has taken Burke’s place. Additionally, there are new teachers, more OSA agents are present, and stricter regulations have been implemented.
To make matters worse, Tristan is back at school with a fiancée, and without any friends to turn to for advice, Selene finds it hard to determine who she can trust. Choosing the wrong person to confide in could lead to dangerous consequences.
“Ward Locked” continues to captivate me into sleepless nights. The story is brimming with uncertainty, unexpected twists, mysteries, friendship, romantic dilemmas, and political conspiracy.
I’m pleased with how the story unfolds. Plus, some of the questions get answered! With Shifters, Witches, Fae, and even a Vampire in the mix, the final book promises to be an enjoyable read, and I’m looking forward to a happily ever after!
Fate Sealed
Playing games can have deadly consequences.
After exposing a secret lab and illegal experiments, I assumed the culprits would be held accountable. Unfortunately, I underestimated how deep the corruption within OSA runs. Instead of punishing the actual criminals, OSA expels me.
But that doesn’t mean I’m giving up.
As I dig deeper into the Dumont family’s past, I find a surprising connection to the present. The fae have been manipulating events far longer than anyone suspects, and the Wild Hunt is closing in on any witch who dares to use fae magic—including me.
Dragged into the fae realm, I’m forced to compete in their games where every choice could mean my death. Worse, the fae hold no love for witches, not even those with royal blood. They would rather watch us all die than see one of us emerge victorious.
With the odds stacked against me, there’s only one way to save the boy whose fate is entwined with mine and the other witches brought here against their will.
I have to win.
My thoughts…
What I like about the story is the little bonding session between Erolith and Selene, Isobel’s rescue mission, the opportunity to explore the Fae realm and the hunt challenges. However, there are several aspects that I found unappealing. I feel the book failed to provide Selene with a well-deserved ending. This is not the conclusion I had in mind! I’m not even feeling the HEA vibes😢.
Everything felt rushed the moment they were escorted out of the Fae realm. I would have preferred if the arrests of Marie had been postponed until their return and followed by the reunion between Cecily’s family. Additionally, the uncertain fate of Erolith and Drahvin left me feeling dissatisfied. As a result, this book receives only four stars instead of a full five.
As for the spin-off, I would like to propose the story of Isobel and Adrian. Additionally, please include the Fae’s realm and provide an update on what happens with Erolith and Drahvin. Thank you!
I’m about to dive into the Broken Skies series since I haven’t had the chance to read them yet. I hope the earlier series written by Theresa Kay lives up to my expectations!
