Karma
People say karma’s a…well, you know. Personally, I don’t think I’m that bad. It’s not like I wanted this job. I wasn’t even in my right mind when I accepted the position.
Now, I’m surrounded by crazy coworkers like Lady Luck, who’s a bit of a tramp, and Murphy’s Law, who’s a bumbling oaf. But the worst is Fate. He’s got a problem with transfers like me, and I have to see him constantly. It’s unavoidable. We’re hunting the same man—my murderer.
My thoughts…
This book presents a unique and engaging narrative featuring characters like Karma, Fate, Luck, Death, Cupid, Jinxes, and more, each fulfilling roles that align with their names. The story is packed with mystery, humour, and complex love-hate relationships that add depth to the plot.
I especially appreciate the unpredictability of the story. It’s exciting to not know how events will unfold or how Fate and Paddy will interact when they finally meet, considering their potentially conflicting perspectives.
The mystery surrounding Karma’s significance adds another layer of intrigue. I especially love the drama between Fate and Karma 😂, and the Guards—oh, they’re absolutely hilarious!
Jinxed
Karma, it’s what they call me and the very essence of who I am. When I died young, I was recruited by the agency that keeps the Universe running smoothly. As someone with a human past, most of my coworkers consider me inferior.
But not everyone. Something evil has been stalking me for centuries. It’s been biding its time, waiting for the moment when it will strike, and it needs me to do it.
Its methods of recruitment are tearing apart every aspect of my life. I’m slowly losing myself, both mentally and physically. I don’t know who I can count on, but I’m finding out how much I’m willing to sacrifice to save the ones I care about.
My thoughts…
In this book, you’ll discover Karma feeling suffocated and losing hope, yet remaining stubborn. After missing her chance to leave her job, she has no choice but to get acquainted with her colleagues, create a manual for future transfers, and try to stay under the radar—though circumstances leave no other option.
The identities of the villains in the story are becoming increasingly clear. In this book, Karma is being bullied, and as much as she wants to confide in Fate about her actions, she can’t. With the life of one of her friends hanging in the balance, dependent on her obedience to the villain, she has no choice but to comply. This is one of those cases where speaking up and revealing the problem isn’t an option.
Overall, this book is a lovely continuation of the first one. I can’t wait to learn how it will play out, what new ability Karma will gain after Paddy restores the connection, and to see her grow more powerful after everything she has suffered in this book!
Fated
Settling the cosmic score is what Karma was drafted by the Universe to do. But what happens when all the humans start going to the dark side? She’s got to find the source, and the most likely suspect is her long-time rival, who outclasses her in both power and resources.
Luckily, she’s got a new partner, Fate, but he comes with his own set of complications. The confirmed bachelor has a target of his own.
My thoughts…
So, this marks the end of the story for Fate and Karma, I suppose. The fourth book seems to focus on Lars and Faith, a girl whom I found quite intriguing after briefly seeing her through Karma’s eyes.
In any case, I thought the prolonged push and pull in the relationship between the two was a bit boring, but the revelation about Karma’s origin was definitely interesting. However, the way the battle between the two forces ended felt a bit anticlimactic. I was expecting more!
Still, I can forgive the author, considering the story’s originality and how engaging the first two books were. I’m looking forward to reading more of her completed series, especially after finishing Lars’s story with his crush 😊.
Dead Ink
Within the walls of his tattoo shop, Dead Ink, Lars hides in plain sight from the past he walked away from. But he still battles every day with the dark urges that drove him from his position as the Grim Reaper. Then Faith Dover appears, seeking his aid, and Lars discovers that he isn’t as hardened as he thought.
On the run from her kidnapper, Faith stumbles into Dead Ink, towing in enough secrets and baggage to weigh down the dead. But Lars isn’t the saviour she hopes him to be. Dark and seductive, he might be more dangerous than the people she’s running from.
When he discovers her suspicious ties to a crew of murderers, will he help her or cast her out to the craziness that has overtaken the world? Can Faith win the heart of a soul incapable of trust?
My thoughts…
Book four in Karma’s series focuses on Lars and Faith. Some scenes from this book were introduced in book three, especially those involving Karma, so the timeline aligns with that period.
The story doesn’t revolve around major events but instead focuses on the emotional conflicts and trust issues between Faith and Lars. If you’re a fan of the side characters, this book delves deeper into them, and you should definitely read it.
Personally, the most intriguing part for me was discovering the power held by the ex-grim reaper, while the most disappointing aspect was not finding out what Faith could do 😅.
