The Discovery of Magic

Welcome to Elementals Academy, where magic is the only hope of survival, forbidden romance beckons, and an ancient secret threatens to end it all.

Summer Donovan thinks paying her way through her expensive private college is her biggest problem.

She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Because when the president of the most exclusive sorority on campus goes off the rails and bullies her, Summer defends herself with something she never knew she had.

Magic.

It turns out she’s a witch. But that’s only the start of the surprises in store for her.

Soon after her magical breakthrough, Summer learns she’s destined to attend Elementals Academy-an exclusive school dedicated to witches descended from the Greek gods.

At Elementals Academy, Summer finally finds the thing she’s wanted her whole life: a place where she fits in. Although that doesn’t last long, thanks to her magic not working the way it’s supposed to, and no one knowing why.

But her biggest challenge isn’t schoolwork. Or magic. It’s Zane Caldwell-the iciest, most attractive, and most mysterious student at the school. Despite the way Zane’s warm to her one minute and cold the next, Summer feels an irresistible draw to him.

While struggling to understand her feelings for Zane, Summer soon discovers she has another problem-one far more dangerous. There are secrets lurking within the hallowed halls of Elementals Academy, and she may hold the key to unraveling them. If she can survive long enough… and figure out who to trust.

Three years ago, I read the Elementals series, and this is the second series set in that same universe. I’ve forgotten much of the plot from the first series, which made diving into this new series feel fresh and intriguing.

You don’t need to read the first series to appreciate this second series. However, doing so could enhance your connection to the characters, particularly those residing in the Kinsley cottage.

I’m intrigued by the mystery woven into the story. Summer is unaware of her heritage, and with her powers becoming unpredictable, speculating about her lineage adds an exciting layer to the narrative. Plus, there’s also the enigmatic figure of Zane, who’s brimming with mysteries.

Now that we’ve discovered the identity of her father, are there further revelations, such as her mother’s identity? The blend of Greek and Norse mythology in the story is incredibly refreshing, and I love it!

I’m excited to see what happens next. What challenges await Summer, and can she truly trust her soulmate, especially when the other person may be an adversary? What happened to Alyssa, her best friend, during the attack? Did she die, sustain injuries, or was she unharmed? What other abilities might Summer possess?

The Secrets of Magic

There are only so many secrets you can keep before you break.

A few weeks ago, Summer Donovan learned she’s a witch descended from the Greek gods. She was whisked away to an academy for witches to learn how to use the element she controls—air.

Except Summer doesn’t have air magic. Instead, she controls metal and gems—an ability no witch has demonstrated before.

The headmistress of the school has a theory—she suspects Summer is the first known witch descended from the god of the Underworld, Hades.

As if not knowing her magical heritage isn’t troublesome enough, Summer discovers she’s soulmates with the most mysterious guy at the school—Zane Caldwell. But Zane’s been keeping a secret of his own. He’s an immortal, and his heritage isn’t Greek. It’s Norse. He infiltrated the academy two years ago to spy on the Greeks, and now Summer has to make a choice: reveal the truth about Zane and risk his life, or keep his secret and turn on her people.

Because the Norse gods are rising. When they do, it’s going to be all-out war.

And Summer will eventually have to pick a side.

In this second instalment, as Summer delves deeper into her powers, the looming threat of impending wars between the Norse and Greek Gods also hangs heavily over her.

Summer also finds herself on the brink of a critical divide. Which path will she choose: that of her soulmate or her friends? It’s a matter of life and death, one that demands serious contemplation.

I appreciate the progression of Summer and Zane’s relationship; the term “soulmate” doesn’t rush her into decisions. Instead, she carefully considers all options and possibilities before making her choice.

Filled with thrilling adventures, shocking betrayals, and surprising twists, this story is a captivating read that you won’t want to set down. With two significant secrets unveiled in this story, are there still more revelations waiting to be discovered in the next instalment? Let’s find out!

The Queen of Magic

Her soulmate spied on her people. Now she’s going to do the same to his.

After Zane and Summer journeyed through the Immortal Mountains together, she finally recognized him as her soulmate and let him into her life. Then he told her he loved her and left her in the woods, shattering her heart.

But the game isn’t over. Because while Zane might have originally been spying on the academy, the tables are about to be turned. It’s time for Summer to go to the immortals, pretend she’s joined their side, and pass any information she learns onto the Greeks.

She’s grown so accustomed to keeping secrets that she should be able to pull it off—as long as no one finds out her true identity.

Because if word gets back to Hades that she’s his secret daughter, she’s going to have a lot more to worry about than spying on the immortals.

Similar to how the second book ends before Summer embarks on her spying mission in the Immortals’ village, the third book also leaves us in suspense regarding her journey to the fire world. In the next book, she will find herself back in the underworld, seeking Hades’s assistance in obtaining the flaming sword from the fire realm.

Ever since the lifting of her power-blocking, her life has never been more exhilarating. Now, Summer barely has a moment to breathe comfortably before yet another challenge emerges, demanding her involvement in preventing Ragnarok from occurring.

This book undoubtedly meets expectations, as all the books in the series thus far showcase impressive world-building and plenty of exciting adventures!

I particularly enjoyed reading about Summer and Zane’s adventure in Yggdrasil. That captivating realm fascinated me, so much so that I felt cheated when they returned to Abigail without requiring an escort from the Stags! There was also a part I dreaded reading about—the price of information from Mimir. I feared it might involve their soulmate bond. Can you imagine if that were to happen?

As Summer often reminds herself, when she feels overwhelmed, it’s necessary to take one step at a time, and we, the readers, must do the same. While we’re eager to read the next instalment right away, let’s take a moment to leave a review for this book before diving into the final book of the series! I’ve done my part, have you?

The Goddess of Magic

Summer Donovan is the only person who can save the world from a war that will end it all.

If she can figure out who to trust. And who to lie to. And survive long enough to fight her way out of the Underworld.

Piece of cake.

The war between the Greek and Norse gods rages on with no end in sight.

No one is safe from the carnage.

Summer and her immortal soulmate Zane have one chance to stop it before the gods clash in a final battle that will destroy the world.

Their only hope for peace—and survival—is killing King Lucian, the architect of the war and ruler of the immortals. But taking him out is easier said than done. It turns out that the only weapon that can kill King Lucien is locked in the deadly World of Fire.

To get that weapon, Summer needs the help of her not-so-loving father, Hades. And she’ll have to outsmart the trickster god, Loki. But Hades and Loki are only a taste of the surprises waiting for her in the Underworld, where nothing is as it seems—and you never know who you can trust.

True to her name, Summer radiates with the sun’s intensity during the Summer season in this last book. Her reactions and actions reflect her maturity, and witnessing her evolution into the goddess she is has been an incredible journey.

Had I been reading Elementals Academy right after finishing with the Elementals series, I would have appreciated this book even more, especially since the original Air Elemental, Chris, joins Summer on her quest in Surt’s domain.

I honestly enjoy this book more than the other three in the series. It features non-stop action, adventure, and dangers at every turn for Summer. Whether it’s rescuing the person she loves or vanquishing adversaries, nothing can deter her from completing her mission as long as she has faith in herself.

The ending, however, leaves me with an uneasy feeling, and I hope that IF Michelle chooses to write another sequel to the story, we’ll be rid of him for good!

One final thought I have is regarding Summer’s official Goddess title. While we know that Kate is the Goddess of Education, I’m curious about what title Summer holds. Does the title of the book indicate her role? However, since Hecate already holds the title of Goddess of Magic and Witchcraft, we can’t assign that same title to Summer. Therefore, we need to think of an alternative title for her 😉. So, Goddess of ….?
