Surface

Felicia Parks’ sister, Scarlett, was supposed to have died. So, when Felicia runs into a girl six years later who looks just like the sister she thought she lost, she doesn’t know what to believe. Felicia soon comes to find out that the captivating singing she’d heard the night of her sister’s drowning may explain everything.

When Felicia Parks sees her sister, Scarlett, who she thought drowned when they were kids, she doesn’t know what to believe. Felicia soon comes to find that the captivating singing she’d heard the night of her sister’s drowning may explain everything.

Felicia lost her younger sister, Scarlett, and her mother on her ninth birthday. It is believed that Scarlett drowned, and in the aftermath, her mother disowned her and was later admitted to a mental health facility. Since that tragic day, Felicia has been living with her grandmother.

Six years after this traumatic experience, Felicia unexpectedly encounters Scarlett and uncovers a life-altering secret. To navigate her new reality, Felicia will need Scarlett and her newfound family, as innocent lives are at stake.

Felicia finds herself drawn to Tyler, a young boy with epilepsy. However, if she doesn’t create some distance, she risks putting him in danger. Pursuing casual relationships with others, like Jackson, might be her only option. However, the question remains as to whether she can maintain a casual relationship without developing any emotional attachment.

This is a lighthearted and fun story about a young siren as she navigates her daily life and comes to terms with her new status as a Siren while grappling with her teenage emotions. The story is slow-paced, with minimal action, yet it is filled with questions that beg to be answered.

Will Felica be able to overcome the challenge set by Phorcys? Why does Angelica’s behaviour towards her fluctuate between warmth and coldness? Will Felicia and her new sisters cross paths with the Phorcydes in the future? A war, perhaps?

Captivate

What would you do if you knew that you might kill the person you were falling in love with?

When Felicia Parks learned about her new destiny as a siren, she didn’t fully understand the obstacles that came along with it. Not until she thought she had lured Jackson, the guy who she’s fallen head over heels for. Now she’ll do anything it takes to protect him from her own song, even if it means she has to make sacrifices of her own.

Meanwhile, Felicia has less than a year to convince Phorcys that she can fall in love with someone without killing him, or she’s going to die. That’s assuming that she doesn’t die even sooner than that, since a mortal has crossed her path without being affected by her song.

In this instalment, we follow Felicia as she attempts to fulfil the end of the deal with Phorcys. The timeline is tight, so she finds herself dating several guys. Although her heart still longs for Jackson despite their breakup, that may not last long.

We are now into the second book, but yet nothing significant has taken place. The other details, like her interactions with her mother and her experiences dating or socializing with friends and sisters, seem rather uninteresting.

Nonetheless, Felicia’s connection with the Ocean is intriguing, as is the discovery regarding Jackson’s sister. I’m hopeful that the thing Felicia found out right at the end of the story will introduce some thrilling plot twists in book three.

What intrigues me are Jackson’s sisters. Are the sisters also Sirens? What is the cryptic mission the Ocean has given Felicia? There’s also something about Donnie, who keeps showing up whenever she’s in trouble and his talk about revenge, which I suspect involves Angelica. I’m eager to uncover these answers in the next book!

Enchant

Felicia Parks sets out to find the island that the woman in her dream told her about. She takes Jackson along for the ride, and they find an unexpected third party once they’re on the island. In the midst of learning many dark secrets about Angelica, Felicia knows that she must do whatever is necessary to take her down.

While she sails the sea in search of the island, Felicia finds herself tangled in a web of secrets, lies, and love.

We find ourselves in the third instalment of the series, which shows some improvement compared to the first two. The story presents some adventure and a surprising twist regarding a character near the end, although it’s not entirely unexpected.

However, beyond that, there seems to be a certain emptiness. What purpose does Felicia’s violin serve if she barely plays it? Is it merely to highlight her uniqueness? How unique can she be if she still struggles with self-control?

I also noticed a flaw regarding the contact lenses in chapter four. Felicia took them off before going to bed, yet when she wakes up on the beach the next morning, Donnie sees her, and they even have a conversation—no mention of her averting her eyes or anything. Later, she sneaks into the house because she’s worried her grandmother and mother will notice her eyes aren’t their usual colour. What about Donnie?

Nevertheless, as we approach the conclusion of Felicia’s journey, I’m hopeful that the final book will deliver more excitement and a satisfying wrap-up. Can they help the ancient sirens, Jackson and Gabby? What about Scarlett? How do they plan to confront Angelica and Phoebe? What’s the future hold for these sirens?

Serenade

Felicia Parks’ sister, Scarlett, disappeared without telling anyone where she was going. It couldn’t have been at a worse time. Relying on the help of Donnie and Jasmine instead, Felicia needs to figure out a way to break Jackson and Gabby free from the stone statues they’ve become, before someone shatters them to pieces.

But it’s not just Jackson, Gabby, and Scarlett that Felicia needs to worry about. She also has to recover the ancient sirens that Angelica has turned to stone and find a way to change back Ivy and her clan of sirens, too.

As secrets begin to unravel, Felicia finds herself unsure of who she can trust. All she knows is that she needs to save everyone before it’s too late.

I enjoyed this final book mainly because it featured all the plot twists, adventures, and action we’ve been eagerly anticipating, along with Felicia showcasing her skills, albeit briefly.

However, in the end, it wasn’t our main character who resolved the conflict, which was somewhat disappointing. It felt unsatisfying to see her hopping from island to island, only for the big badass to take charge and fix everything.

The unexpected twist was a little sad, though regarding the romantic aspect, I support the choice made for Felicia. Lastly, the epilogue leaned too heavily into the “happily ever after” theme. The notion of granting immortality to anyone close to Felicia felt excessive and too much for me.

That being said, if you are a teenager looking for a fun and easy read during a beach vacation, you might want to consider this series and envision the events in the story happening to you—excluding, of course, the more gory parts.😉
