Kiss of Death

All towns have secrets… Lexi never thought she’d return to Briar Creek, the town she and her mom left ten years ago. But when her cousin Austin is mysteriously killed, they return for the funeral.

During their stay, Lexi finds herself falling for Gabe. There’s just something about him that draws Lexi in, unlike anyone she’s ever met.

As Lexi begins to uncover things about the cousin she barely knew, she begins to piece together the puzzling details surrounding his death. She soon finds herself believing that there’s more to his death, and she’s determined to find answers—even if it means putting her own life in danger.

In Briar Creek, vampires are one of them…

Book one in the series introduced us to Lexi, a teen girl who lost someone in her family but with barely any emotion portrayed towards the event and more to the selection of boys that she likes. Gabe, Dan, Craig and Brandon.

Lexi knew something wasn’t right about their deaths but could do barely anything about it. But things might change, and we might see more of it next as we have six more books to explore in the series.

It’s a slow start with teenage angst and only an added bit of mysteries to solve about Lexi’s father, the killer and what’s so special about Lexi, who holds the title of the ‘last hope’ in the story. Read this book if you’re a dedicated vampire genre fan who doesn’t mind a childish mindset heroine.

Thicker Than Water

There’s something strange going on in Briar Creek. Everyone’s been quiet lately…too quiet. Lexi’s fate was determined before she even arrived in Briar Creek at the beginning of the summer, and it was far more deadly than she ever could have imagined.

I had a lovely read after 50% of this book. That’s where someone explains to Lexi the danger that awaits her, and the event afterwards is much more exciting. The plot twist right at the end of the story made me want to pick up the next book immediately to find out more.

However, I still dislike the heroine in the story. I wish she was a little bit more mature and crafty in her solution thinking. I also hope Gabe will finally open up to her about everything, no more doubt, etc!

I also wonder if we ever meet Anna Schwartz again, whom Lexi met briefly during her runaway attempt. I’m sure she’s important in the story, somehow. Maybe it’s also time to meet Lexi’s father! 🤞

Destined to Die

When Lexi finds herself standing face-to-face with her cousin, Austin, who she believes to be dead, everything in her world turns upside down.

Escaping Briar Creek and the vampires in it is only the first step that she must take to ensure her own safety. She still has many obstacles ahead of her and secrets to uncover before she can change her fate.

I enjoy the story’s journey, even if the pace is slow. At least the plot is progressing, and I’m eager to see what happens to Lexi and Dan. Where did they end up to? Regarding the event’s witness, was it Craig? He seems to be the only person we know of who was present.

However, character-wise, I still dislike Lexi. Her behaviour in the story remained the number one source of annoyance. I fail to see how Gabe accidentally turning someone into a vampire would pose a problem in their relationship (if they still have one), especially considering Lexi’s actions when she suspected Gabe of infidelity. 🤬

Beyond Lexi and Dan’s fate, I also want to find out what will become of Ben, Lexi’s father. What is Veronica’s next plan of action? Will Rhonda’s role expand beyond a mere plot filler? On a brighter note, I’m rooting for Austin and Anna to get together.❤️

Change of Fate

When Lexi and Dan were sucked into the book, they left their world as they know it behind. Stuck in a strange, new place with only each other for support, Dan and Lexi begin to confide in each other.

Will they settle their differences? Or has Lexi travelled back in time with the one person in Briar Creek who had always had it out for her from the very beginning?

Meanwhile, Austin, Gabe, Anna, and Craig scramble to find Lexi’s father, the only person who might know how to bring Dan and Lexi home.

This book is my favourite so far. I love the idea of travelling back in time, but Lexi abandoning Dan and going off on her own pisses me off. Thankfully, all goes well, and they mend the relationship too!

Looking back on Gabe and Lexi’s relationship, I now favour Dan over Gabe, as Lexi and Dan shared the time travel experience. Gabe just has too much baggage, what with Veronica and Rhonda. Lexi is better off with Dan, assuming he’s still alive!

For the next book, I look forward to finding out the answer to whether Lexi ends up drinking the potion or will it land in someone else’s hands. Besides, I’m also curious whether Dan and Mary-Kate will manage to return home.

There’s also something suspicious about Craig, and I wonder if we’ll discover what’s going on with him. Last but not least, what kind of trouble will Rhonda stir up next?

Cold as Ice

Coming back to the present was the least of Lexi Hunter’s problems. She has some decisions to make . . . decisions that will be life-altering. When Dan doesn’t return from the past right away, Lexi begins to wonder if he even survived the attack that she nearly witnessed and struggles to find a way to bring him back as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, she must decide if she wants to drink the potion that will make her immortal. As Lexi tries to ward off Rhonda and learns some dark secrets about Gabe, she also deals with the threat of the Briar Creek vampires finding out where she’s been hiding.

The story’s outcome was satisfying, especially Lexi’s relationship. But what will Rhonda do next?! Besides, I also want to find out who murdered Veronica. If Rhonda isn’t the culprit, then who is this other villain in the school? And what became of the student Rhonda left seemingly lifeless in his room? I thought he was dead, but it didn’t get discovered.

There’s also something else that Gabe hides. I wonder what 🤔. But as long as it doesn’t jeopardize Dan and Lexi’s relationship, I’m okay with it! Finally, I’m wondering if we’ll hear from Mary-Kate again. While I wouldn’t mind if she remained in the past, her presence there could alter the course of history, right? I can’t wait to read the next book!

Burn Like Fire

Lexi and her friends head to Ohio after Anna gets a tip about her mom’s killer. While they’re there, they learn that her mom was involved in something that surprises them all.

Meanwhile, Rhonda struggles with her own inner demons and comes to find that playing with people’s emotions isn’t always easy.

Austin and Anna’s relationship will soon be put to the test. While Austin wants Anna to become a vampire more than ever before, she’s not so sure…

I can hear your heartbeat! Oh wait, I thought when you’re an immortal, your heart no longer beats? Hurm, never mind. Do you see what I meant by the inconsistency of the details in the stories?

Indeed, this inconsistency is a recurring issue I’ve noticed in the Morse sisters’ works. It’s also why I’m eager to finish this series and explore other authors. But don’t get me wrong, their books show considerable promise; they just need serious editing and attention to detail.

Speaking of which, I knew Gabe’s story wasn’t over. After all his efforts to protect Lexi, he couldn’t be dismissed so easily. Caroline’s arrival was a welcome surprise, though! Now Gabe just needs to survive Kevin’s revenge plot.

I think I know why Gabe’s mum dislikes Lexi so much now. It all starts to make sense. Nevertheless, let’s move on to the final book and read how our couples achieve their happily-ever-afters. The final battle awaits!

Time Will Tell

Everything has been turned upside down in Briar Creek. Gabe is locked in a room all by himself, trying to find a way out, but is left to wonder why his deranged twin brother would leave him there in the first place.

Meanwhile, Anna is off to Westbrooke to become a blood donor so she can decide if she really loves Austin or if she only loves being a blood donor. Dan and Lexi are trying to deal with the Caroline and Gabe situation. And Mary-Kate? She has plans of her own.

I’m pleased with the outcome, but those who want a serious battle against vampires might feel slightly let down as the confrontation is brief.

Nevertheless, the chain of events before Lexi faces the horde of vampires is thrilling, even borderline exhilarating. All things considered, it makes for a delightful and fitting ending to the story!

However, the mystery of Veronica’s killer remains unsolved at the story’s conclusion. Or, did I overlook the answer?🤔.
