A Bridge to Nowhereland

I worked hard, everything I planned was almost within my grasp, and then one flicker in time, mere seconds, and it’s all gone. Now I’m starting at zero, stuck in a place called the outpost, which is neither here nor there but some limbo land for those who haven’t transitioned.
I’m sleeping in a broom closet, choking on fumes, while everyone declares me useless. Kaden, the guy who runs this place, keeps telling me there’s nothing I can do to go back. That once the change is set in motion, it’s impossible to reverse.
Every day, each step takes me farther away from where I want to be and closer to Kaden and a mysterious land of darkness. The only way out of this mess is forward, away from the life I built, and the people I love…
My thoughts…
Wilhelmina Adelaide, better known by her preferred name Billie, always thinks her grandmother has a few screws loose, until what she says actually comes true. Her grandmother claims she’s made Billie “a reservation,” but doesn’t elaborate on what it means.
When Billie leaps across the drawbridge, she finds herself in a strange realm called Outpost, nestled between her home world, Topside, and a mysterious place known only as Nowhere.
There, she meets Cookie, Dice, Connor and the Outpost’s boss, Kade. With no clue what her grandmother’s “reservation” entails or what she’s supposed to accomplish, Billie tries to bargain her way back to Topside.
Instead, she proves to be an invaluable asset, even though every test insists she lacks the gift of a Thinker, someone who can bend others to their will. It turns out she’s a natural, and something out there is hunting her.
I read the book a few days ago and really enjoyed it. It had just the right blend of mystery, entertaining side characters and an exciting world, plus a fiercely headstrong heroine. Billie’s banter with Kade kept me thoroughly entertained.
While the series echoes familiar tropes, the fresh new setting makes those similarities easy to overlook. I can’t wait to find out what secret Billie’s grandmother holds and see how it all unfolds.
Burning Bridges in Nowhere

I lost my family, career and everything I knew when I came to Nowhere, but I’m rebuilding a life for myself in this strange new reality.
I’m working as a tinker for my mysterious boss Kaden, when my past drives a wedge between us, and I’m once again left with nothing. Things are already spiralling out of control when my darkest secret comes to light, and the people of Nowhere turn on me as well.
Now it’s not only my job and friends I could lose, but my very existence is in peril. It’s time to find out who’s loyal and who will leave me for dead.
My thoughts…
Even though this is the second book, it kept me hooked just as much as the first! I had to force myself to put it down at night (though I didn’t always succeed 😅).
So much was happening around Billie, every twist was a delight. And Kaden? Seeing his softer side was a treat, though I admit there were moments I wanted to shake them both and yell, ‘Just get on with it already!’
The slow-burn romance and the gradual unravelling of secrets were nicely paced. Every high and low of Billie’s adventures in Nowhereland had me completely invested.
Now I’m dying to know: What incredible abilities will Billie unlock next? How will she face ‘the’ ex retaliation? And most importantly, how will she take down the main villain? I can’t wait to find out!

Out of Nowhere

There’s something primal about vengeance. After losing my career and family, it’s the only thing that drives me. So when I get the opportunity to become stronger and gain an edge on my enemy, I take it.
But everything has a cost, and the price for my new power won’t be paid by me alone. I’ve bound Kaden to me, done the unthinkable, and it still might not be enough to defeat them. Now I might have to choose between killing my enemy or saving the ones I love…
My thoughts…
I finished this book a few days ago, and I’m still reeling from the ending. Something about it didn’t sit right with me. For example, the fight scene wrapped up far too abruptly, and I was hoping the ‘ex’ would retaliate after that vengeance hint in book two, but it never happened. I really thought the ‘ex’ would team up with the villain.
So, I have mixed feelings about the series overall. While I liked this imaginative world, Billie’s prolonged, repetitive emotional turmoil felt tedious and wasted chances for more engaging scenes. Perhaps, including Kaden’s point of view would fix it, as he often wandered off.
Overall, this is a true slow-burn romance. The confession doesn’t come until four chapters before the series ends, so be prepared for a long wait if you decide to start it. Most of the tension stems from Billie’s stubbornness and disbelief, compounded by the pair’s poor communication and lack of honesty! 🙄
