Death’s Captive
The god of death is coming for me.
He watches me through the eyes of a violent wolf—one who believes I’m his fated mate.
He’s cruel and vicious… to everyone other than me.
I know I should run, but I can’t deny the longing for him stirring deep within me.
Just when I allow myself to trust him, he reveals his true nature. Enveloping me in his deadly embrace, he seeks to claim my soul.
Despite my aching desire for him, I’ve made a vow to myself. Only I will be the one to determine my fate.
My thoughts…
This book can be a bit confusing at first until you adapt to the concept of different POVs at play with various names but feature the same person telling stories from their other lives. It’s therefore important to keep track of which character is being highlighted at the beginning of each chapter: Adeline, Astra, Thane, Anya, Amara, Attie, and one chapter featuring Remus.
I had not previously encountered Thane in any of the earlier series, which didn’t surprise me since it’s a new character name associated with an old soul that we meet in the Vampish Series, much like Astra. However, I do remember Viceroy and his father from the Wolfish Series, particularly during the motorcycle incident when Sierra first came across Viceroy.
When it comes to the main characters, Thane appears to embody the typical possessive alpha male trope seen in other stories, sometimes coming off as quite barbaric. On the other hand, Astra seems naive and acts more like a follower; she rarely questions things and frequently changes her mind, which can be a bit frustrating.
The narrative has your mind busy thinking of all the possibilities of why Attie needs to hide from Thanatos. The ending certainly hits hard; to me, it’s a tragic love story. I can’t wait to see what unfolds next now that we understand the underlying reason for the events.
Death’s Fate
I never had a chance.
Eluding Death is impossible.
With Thane’s memory restored, the Demon pack heir is coming for me again. Despite the inexorable pull I feel toward my mate, my beautiful enemy, I won’t make the same mistake twice. He’s not the only one with power, and it’s time to take fate into my own hands.
He’ll never claim me, he’ll never have my soul.
Or at least that’s what I thought until an ancient foe appears driving me straight into my enemy’s arms. Now we are forced to fight together or be torn apart for good.
My thoughts…
This sequel is an excellent extension of the first book, picking up right where the previous story left off. It offers a captivating fantasy adventure brimming with themes of love, hate, betrayal, and intriguing mysteries that will keep you turning pages in eager anticipation of what comes next!
The storytelling is elegantly crafted, drawing you in quickly to the tumultuous relationship between Astra and Thane, as you reveal their true identities and the deep connection they’ve maintained over centuries. I can’t wait to discover how they will confront the formidable villain and finally break the curse that has ensnared them in this never-ending cycle in the concluding instalment.
Death’s Mate
I am Fate, but I control nothing.
Despite being captured by Hades and tortured to do his bidding, I refuse to succumb. My mate will come for me of that I’m certain. I’ve spent multiple lifetimes hiding from Death, but the goddess was right. In the end, he will always find me.
And when he does, he’ll smite down all our enemies, and we will finally have our happy ending. Because my powers are strengthening, and the wheels of fate are churning. I write destiny in the stars, and I wield the world’s fate.
Death and Fate have been kept apart for long enough. Let Divus burn. Chaos will reign.
My thoughts…
The conclusion felt somewhat hurried to me, and I wasn’t fully content with how it wrapped up, particularly concerning the body-swapping element. Perhaps my expectations were too high.
Additionally, I longed for a different outcome for Lachesis, Astra’s sister. I wished for her to be a supportive sibling and potentially pair up with the remaining single triplet. It also saddened me that Rhomus’ situation remained unchanged by the end of the story. Why didn’t Astra do something about it?
Nonetheless, this tale of star-crossed lovers is captivating and rich with conflict, action, adventure, and romance. It’s a great addition to the World of Azar story!
