Akarnae

The first of the five-part MEDORAN CHRONICLES offers a new slant on magical parallel worlds.

With just one step, 16-year-old Alex Jennings’s world changes – literally.

Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities.

Desperate to return home, she learns that only Professor Marselle can help her… but he’s missing. While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora’s boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of there own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can’t ignore her fear that something unexpected… something sinister… is looming.

An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex’s shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race’s survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home?

Will Alex risk her entire world… and maybe even her life – to save Medora?

My thoughts…

A page-turner, fun with magical adventure!

Usually, I don’t particularly like reading books written from a third-person point of view because I can’t connect with the characters. However, this book was an exception because I enjoyed uncovering the mystery too much.

When I first dove into the story, it reminded me of Narnia. Except, Alex was sixteen years old and without any siblings to support her in this new world. But she wasn’t entirely alone in facing the challenging world. She found comfort in her newfound friends in Akarnae, which she had never had on Freya, the terms used in Akarnae, referring to earth.

The world created by Lynette is magical and high-tech – a salve that heals wounds instantly, the ComTCD, Bubbledoor, Communications Globe, etc. I want the gadgets! What made the story lively and enjoyable was Alex, Bear and Jordan’s solid friendship. I wish I was in Akarnae and be part of the team. But, I’m not the chosen one, and I’m too old to accept the calling 😉.

Raelia

“Life is full of crossroads, Alex. Full of choices.”

Returning for a second year at Akarnae Academy with her gifted friends, Alexandra Jennings steps back through a doorway into Medora, the fantasy world that is full of impossibilities. Despite the magical wonder of Medora, Alex’s life remains threatened by Aven Dalmarta, the banished prince from the Lost City of Meya who is out for her blood.

To protect the Medorans from Aven’s quest to reclaim his birthright, Alex and her friends seek out the Meyarin city and what remains of its ancient race. Not sure who—or perhaps what—she is anymore, all Alex knows is that if she fails to keep Aven from reaching Meya, the lives of countless Medorans will be in danger. Can she protect them, or will all be lost?

My thoughts…

Addictive story – Sign me up for more magical adventures!

I finished with this book last night, and I’m still mulling over the plot twist in the morning. I see it coming, but I thought Alex would be able to save him with her gift before the story is over. I guess I’ll have to accept that it will be quite a while before we hear from him again.

The romance in this series is developing very slowly. In fact, I’m not sure if there will be any at all. So far, it’s more to friendship, brotherly love and adventure. But, either way, I’m not disappointed.

The context, characters, the magical lands are all developing, and stronger than before. Now we see clear missions – Besides the ongoing mission to prevent the war, Alex has another task, to save one of her friends, and who knows what other problem would arise in the future. Suffice to say, this second book did not disappoint.

Draekora

“I swear by the stars that you and the others slain tonight will be the first of many. Of that you have my word.”

With Aven Dalmarta now hiding in the shadows of Meya, Alex is desperate to save Jordan and keep the Rebel Prince from taking more lives.

Training day and night to master the enhanced immortal blood in her veins, Alex undertakes a dangerous Meyarin warrior trial that separates her from those she loves and leaves her stranded in a place where nothing is as it should be.

As friends become enemies and enemies become friends, Alex must decide who to trust as powerful new allies—and adversaries—push her towards a future of either light… or darkness.

One way or another, the world will change…

My thoughts…

Time travel, Dragons, Challenges, Brilliant read!

Accidentally or by fate’s arrangement, Alex time travelled to the past. She has to learn and understand the event leading to the catastrophe event in the future by living with the young princes, Kyia, the king and queen. Although as warned by the lady mystique, nothing she does will result in changing the future.

Like the previous book where we ventured to the lost city, we’re introduced to Draekora – Dragon/Draekon’s territory in this book. Praise the author for her creative mind because I loved every single world she had created in this series. It’s beautiful, magical and full of wonder! Not forgetting the storylines were fantastic. This time, I couldn’t connect the dots about Aven and Niyx. Again, thank you, Lynette, for not making it easy.

Last comment before I go about reading the next adventure… Oh stars, I wish by some miracle, Kaiden is Xiraxus! In the future, where the Draekon no longer resided above the cloud, they shapeshifted, resulting in that. Just my wishful thinking 😉.

‘Heart I give you, soul to share, strength and mind, both here and there. Forever and always, vaeliana.’ – Xiraxus

Graevale

“Light or dark, only one can win. This world cannot survive in shades of grey.”

Now that Aven Dalmarta sits upon the throne of Meya, Alex must race against the clock to save the rest of Medora from the Rebel Prince’s wrath.

Haunted by an unspeakable vision of the future, Alex and her friends set out to warn the mortal races. But making allies out of ancient enemies proves difficult.

With her nights spent deep in the Library under the guidance of a mysterious new mentor, Alex is desperate to strengthen her gift and keep all those she loves safe. Because in a world where nothing is certain, she is sure of only one thing:

Aven is coming.

My thoughts…

Loyalty, Friendship, Love and Trials!

Things escalated very quickly ever since Alex returned from the past. With Aven sitting on the throne, Alex must act fast to convince the other species to join forces with the human before Aven strikes. The problem is, will she have the skill to convince the elders and have enough time to juggle between her school, and training, or she’s doomed from the start.

The transformation of Alex up to now was marvellous. From having no idea what she’s doing in an alien world with no ability and knowledge to her level now. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment leading towards her development because it didn’t happen instantly, but dedication and discipline with blood and sweat spilt.

It isn’t hard to see why this book has quickly become everyone’s favourite in the series. There are so many emotions in play, actions, and adventures. Not forgetting Alex is finally open up for Kaiden, which everyone has been waiting for ages, and then there’s a cute protective animal too!

I’m so looking forward to Vardaesia, and ready to jump into the last book. But, first, we must not forget Alex’s best friend, for she wouldn’t be able to pull it off without them. So, while we compose ourselves to prepare for the finale, let’s read We Three Heroes, a book dedicated to DC, Jordan and Bear.

We Three Heroes

“We all have to do our part if we’re to survive the coming storm.”

Alexandra Jennings might be the hero of The Medoran Chronicles, but she would be lost without her three closest friends. They are her heroes, and like all heroes, they each have their own story.

Meet the real D.C. in Crowns and Curses and discover how she becomes the princess Alex once despised but now adores.

Follow Jordan on his healing journey in Scars and Silence as he struggles in the wake of being rescued from his living nightmare.

Walk beside Bear in Hearts and Headstones as he faces an unspeakable trauma while helping his world prepare for the coming war.

D.C., Jordan and Bear are the heroes of their own stories.

It is time for their stories to be told.

My thoughts…

Up Close and Personal!

This novella is about Alex’s closest friends, and while we know the story’s outcome, we lack the background stories. So, DC, Jordan and Bear’s POVs help fill the blank with some unheard details from the main book – why DC is a loner when the story first started, what’s Luka story is, and how the three of them got into Graevale during the war.

Another thing to point out is that I didn’t find it boring even when I already knew how the story played out. Part of the reason was that some of the facts blew my mind away. For example, I didn’t realise DC had had such a bad experience when she was young. Jordan’s tattoo and his night out with Hunter were also something new to me. Lastly, I wasn’t aware that Bear contributed to developing the ‘weapon’ and that he encountered Marcus, Jordan’s father, in Graevale and got his memory wiped.

Note:

DC’s story starts from when she was very young until the moment when Jordan was under the control of Aden. Jordan’s story begins after Alex rescues him from Aden’s clutches and finishes when he is officially in a relationship with DC, right before they pay a diplomatic visit. Meanwhile, Bear’s story starts after he got injured by Jarnocks and ends after the war in Graevale, and they realise Alex and Kaiden are MIA to Vardaesia (Not that they know about this fact).

Vardaesia

Embrace the wonder

“When Day and Night combine and fight against one Enemy,

then Dark and Light shall meet mid-strike and set the Captives free.”

In the wake of loss and devastation, Alex must cast aside her grief to seek aid from those who banished the Meyarins long ago. But the proud Tia Aurans care little for the woes of mortals and demand that Alex-and her friends-undergo the Gates of Testing to prove their world is worth saving.

With an ancient prophecy looming, Alex must confront the secrets of her past if she is to survive long enough to see the future. For if she returns to Medora without the Tia Aurans by her side, all hope for her world will be lost.

In this explosive conclusion to The Medoran Chronicles, the fate of Medora hangs in the balance as Alex readies herself to face Aven one final time.

Who will survive, and who will fall?

“If, however, darkness wins, there is no strategy

to keep from all that will be lost, and so will always be.”

My thoughts…

Friendship, Despairs, Sacrifices!

My goodness, this series blew my mind away. This one especially is the best one of all the books in the series. I thought my favourite was Draekora, but this one managed to snatch the title away. Be prepared before reading this one because you might not want to stop reading it.

I was actually torn between devouring this book in one sitting to find out how it folded or pacing myself and savouring this last book. The latter won but only had me tossed and turned in bed because whenever I stopped reading it, I kept thinking of all the possibilities, solutions, etc.

Now that I finished with this book, and based on the note on the last page, I hope Lynette will come out with the sequel soon! I’m already feeling the emptiness in my heart. It’s the best of the best series that I’ve read this year, and I hope I’ll see it made into a movie/series one day! Merrah Mai, Lynette for the beautiful adventures!

A Very Medoran Kaldoras

Journey back to the world of Medora for a Kaldoras celebration like no other! Set nine months after the conclusion of The Medoran Chronicles, this short story will warm your heart as you experience the joys—and tears—of the festive season right alongside all your favourite characters!

Note: I cannot read this 40-pages book as it’s not available to purchase outside of Australia. I hope one day, I’ll get an invitation to join the Kaldoras! Would you please make this available worldwide, Lynette?
